Community Engagement
Our Community Outings are offered to patients in the Aurora and Foundations for Recovery programs, providing exciting, collaborative, and meaningful opportunities to practice treatment goals in real-world settings. These outings allow patients to socialize, reconnect with what matters most to them, enjoy fresh air and exercise, and engage fully with the world around them. Each experience is designed to support growth in social, emotional, and relational domains—while also offering a sense of enjoyment and connection.
Here are some highlights from this fall.
Clark Organic Farm
Patients have the unique opportunity to volunteer at Clark Organic Farm in Carlisle, Massachusetts, where they can explore food systems, learn the principles of organic agriculture, and build meaningful social connections. Participants take part in hands-on activities such as harvesting vegetables, weeding, and assisting with the movement and care of livestock.
Each patient begins with a guided tour during their first visit, and many choose to return weekly to continue growing their skills, confidence, and sense of community at the farm.
YMCA
Patients in the Aurora and Foundations program have access to the West Suburban Wells Avenue YMCA. This facility offers a wide range of amenities, including a pool, open basketball, pickleball courts, and a game room. Fitness classes are offered as community outings to allow for new expierences in classes they can stick with throughout the program.
Exploring Boston
