Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills Group
Evidence-Based Skills for Emotional Regulation: Our Evening Six Month DBT Program
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is one of the most researched behavioral treatments for improving emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and relationship functioning. Rather than focusing only on insight or discussion, DBT emphasizes learnable skills that can be practiced and applied in real-world situations.
MH²’s virtual Evening DBT Skills Group is built around this evidence-based framework. Led by MH² clinician Gabrielle Massey, the program provides structured skills training in a collaborative learning environment. Sessions are held virtually on Monday evenings from 5:00–6:30 pm, making participation accessible for working adults and those seeking evening care.
The six month curriculum focuses on targeting core DBT skill domains:
-
Mindfulness: strengthening attention and awareness to support clearer decision-making
-
Distress tolerance: navigating high-intensity moments without escalating stress or making the situation worse
-
Interpersonal effectiveness: improving communication, boundaries, and relationship outcomes
-
Emotion regulation: understanding, modifying, and addressing vulnerability factors to emotional responses
Open to both current MH² patients and new participants. Each 90-minute weekly session integrates education, experiential practice, and structured exercises designed to reinforce learning between meetings. This format supports skill acquisition, retention, and real-world application — key factors associated with DBT’s effectiveness.
The group is designed for adults who want to build resilience, refine coping strategies, and improve emotional functioning within a clinically grounded framework. New patients must complete either a group or individual intake prior to joining the group. Participants who are not currently seeing an MH² therapist must have an outside therapist, and a signed release of information (ROI) will be required for coordination of care.
