Frequently Asked Questions

What will treatment look like for me?

Treatment is individualized and will vary from person to person. After you complete an intake or assessment with our clinicians, we will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan and outline the next steps.

Do you provide virtual care?

Our clinicians currently provide telehealth services in Massachusetts, Vermont, Florida, and Rhode Island. We are actively pursuing licensure in additional states. Our health coaches are able to provide services nationwide. In addition, our dietitians are able to provide services in California in conjunction with licensed physicians there.

Does insurance cover any of the services?

MH² does not accept insurance. However, we can provide a monthly superbill for eligible services, which you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Depending on your specific insurance plan and out-of-network benefits, you may receive partial reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement amounts vary by insurer and plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly for details.

Where do patients live while in treatment?

Patients who travel from out of state for our Aurora or Foundations for Recovery programs live in a variety of settings, depending on personal preferences and the level of support needed to be successful while enrolled in a program at MH². Many patients have resided in nearby temporary apartments in the greater Boston area. Some patients are supported by family members who stay with them, while others live independently. Airbnb, VRBO, and long-term hotel stays are also options and may be good choices while exploring more permanent solutions. We have established relationships with numerous residential and supported housing programs in the area. Our collaborations have successfully helped determine the best fit for each individual, ensuring their housing is both safe and comfortable.

What groups do you offer?

Our current ongoing therapy groups include:

  • Emotion Regulation
  • Distress Tolerance
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT)
  • Life Skills / Vocational Skills Rehabilitation
  • Family Connections

We also offer a ketogenic support group for patients participating in medical ketogenic therapy.

Can you recommend a similar clinician in another state or country?

No, we are unable to recommend or refer to clinicians out of state because we cannot certify their competence.

Are you affiliated with McLean Hospital?

No, MH² is not affiliated with McLean Hospital; however, Dr. Palmer is. He is the Founder and Director of the Metabolic and Mental Health Program and the Director of the Department of Postgraduate and Continuing Education, both at McLean Hospital, and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Many of our clinicians have previously worked at McLean or currently work there.

What is the pricing for services?
